Hello. I'm Alan L Brown, a 67-year-old retired school librarian living in Toronto, who created this website in 2006 and has maintained it, with the help of many contributors, ever since. To read more about me, click on "Home" in the menu at the top of this page.

Important note: I have received a few emails recently in which the writer has assumed that, because I posted a plaque about a certain person or place, I am an expert on that person or place. That is not the case. In most cases I know no more about the people and places mentioned on the plaques than what is written on them. One source that is usually very helpful in answering your questions is the Toronto Public Library.
